FRIENDS IN TOWN

The Ketchikan experience doesn’t just begin and end on the tour, it extends to the shore. Here are a few favorite places, brands, community groups, and things do in Ketchikan.

SOUTHEAST ALASKA CONSERVATION COUNCIL

I take our role as stewards of our environment seriously and that means enthusiastic support of the organizations working to protect our home. Without the work of non-profits like SEACC there might be a lot less Tongass National Forest left to appreciate. Members include Alaskans from all walks of life including: fishermen, hunters, scientists, small saw millers, Alaska Natives, hikers, paddlers, and small business owners like us who live, work, and play in Southeast Alaska.

If you enjoyed your cruise through the beauty of the Inside Passage, consider supporting their work to preserve this landscape and its ecology for generations to come! Visit www.seacc.org to find out more.

THE NEW YORK CAFE

The New York Cafe is located in a historic downtown Ketchikan hotel, and offers some of our favorite food, beer, wine, coffee and baked goods in town.

They serve fresh, local seafood and American and Mediterranean cuisine with vegetarian options and source as locally as much as possible. The restaurant has an excellent view of historic Thomas Basin and frequently hosts community events like poetry slams and live music.

NY Cafe is open for everything: breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, coffee, a glass of wine, or a flight of beers.

KETCHIKAN FISHING EXPEDITIONS

Kayaking is my favorite thing to do on the waters of the Inside Passage, but fishing is a very close second.

I share a harbor, a deep enthusiasm for the Alaskan wilderness, and a friendship with Aaron. If you want to go fishing with a captain who can teach, communicate, and catch, go fishing with Aaron at Ketchikan Fishing Expeditions.

You can book with him at alaskafishingexcursions.com.
