TOUR SUMMARY

Howdy! My name is Tim.

I love to take new people exploring on the ocean and into the woods to share what I love about where I live.

Alaska Kayak Companies boat and kayak tour is set up to see the wilds of Alaska from the water and not from the window of a van or charter bus. Together we will visit wild coastline where there will be salt spray but no gift shops.

With three full hours on the water you will see a range of marine and intertidal life. Unlike a dock launched kayak tour I don’t have a firmly set route. The Huckleberry (the cabined aluminum vessel in the photos) allows us the mobility to find the best water and the most wildlife that is nearby on every tour. I can’t make any promises on behalf of mother nature as we aren’t a zoo but we regularly see everything from sea stars, jellyfish, seals, and bald eagles to the occasional humpback whale, black bear, or orca!

I will meet you at the rain gauge, and we’ll take a short stroll through Ketchikan’s bustling waterfront district to the Huckleberry. With a maximum of six guests, we have plenty of storage space on the boat to stow your backpacks and shopping bags while we adventure.

We will scoot out of the harbor and have some of the best views of Ketchikan from the water as we head away from the crowds and storefront that cluster at the berths.

After exploring the more remote coast and surrounding waters outside of town we will anchor up on some beautiful stretch of coastline. I will get you geared up in all the high quality equipment you may need to face the Alaskan elements and lower the expedition-style tandem kayaks off the boat and into the water. The kayaks are pretty comfortable and very stable. These cruising tandems are made to be friendly to a first time paddler and a season veteran will appreciate their high riding soft chine that makes them more responsive than their length would lead you to believe. I make sure that the tour stays accessible regardless of your experience level so that you can enjoy being surrounded by nature and little else.

After the paddle we will return to the Huckleberry where you will be greeted by a snack of wild Alaskan smoked salmon and weather appropriate beverages! The cruise back into town is fast, comfortable, and guaranteed to get you there in plenty of time to catch your cruise ship!
